- Lauren Cavati, Author of The Cheeky Brain Series
This series of books is being developed by me, Lauren Cavati. I have worked in the field of mental health for 13 years and a great deal of this work has been with children. I am also a mother to two young boys, so aside from my profession, I have two more very personal and precious reasons to care about children's mental health.
The concept of The Cheeky Brain came to me this year as I was thinking of ways to teach Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to young children and wanted storybooks to illustrate the concepts nicely to young kids. When I couldn't find anything quite like what I was after, I decided to create some stories myself.
My goal for The Cheeky Brain series is for kids to learn about how our minds control our reality and how we can change how we experience life by being more aware of our brains and being more intentional in our use of our brains.
The first book 'The Cheeky Brain' is an introduction to the star character of the series. My hope is that kids grow fond of The Cheeky Brain and the concept and phrase itself gets embedded in the everyday lives and language of our kids.
The second book 'Dane and The Cheeky Brain' teaches kids the Cognitive Model and helps them understand how their thoughts influence their feelings and behaviour. Kids can also learn how to challenge their Cheeky Brains in this book.
Thank you everyone for being here and for showing your support. The Cheeky Brain and I are very grateful.
